Development of STELAS works towards headway of third world countries, specifically countries located in West and Central Africa, by means of encouragement and providing assistance in the field of youth’s education.
In accordance with data provided by United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), in developing countries reside 98 percent of world’s uneducated populations. In some regions, for example Sub-Saharan Africa, percentage of people registered for receiving primary school education has decreased from 58 to 50 percent. It is common knowledge that literacy of the nation has an impact on development of its country.
In 2006 during the course of world literacy day, the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan has made an announcement concerning importance of literacy and has noted that development of special environments where it can thrive must be of paramount importance. STELAS aims to encourage and uphold an environment where literacy thrives and each young person has a chance of fulfilling his or her potential.
Therefore STELAS proves students with grunts, supports donation of books to community schools and establishments and organizes volunteer service of teachers and professors to the third world, as well as African, countries. The organization employs only volunteer work forces. Approximately 85 percent of contributions will be distributed among our missions and the other 15 percent will defray additional charges.
